Landscape Architecture

Landscape Architecture is the design of open space. Landscape architects determine where to put things like trees, bushes, buildings, paths, and roads. It is quite an old occupation. In ancient times landscape architects planned great gardens and public spaces. The Renaissance saw the creation of wondrous villas and piazzas. Andre le Notre, the designer of the gardens of Versailles, became famous for his work.

Today landscape architects are in constant demand. They design public esplanades and promenades, hotel and resort grounds, housing developments, parks, bike trails, and hundreds of other kinds of open spaces. Part art, part science, the Landscape Architecture major has a challenging and diverse curriculum structured to prepare you for creating outdoor spaces that will take many a person’s breath away.
